 | Turn drab into fab. Windows Slate for Vista Preview 2 now released. With Windows Slate for Vista, completely transform your user experience from the almost universally unappealing pale blue color into an easy on the eyes, appealing looking gray and black color. Windows Slate for Vista is intended as a preview release, and may be incomplete, buggy, or unusable. However, you can always switch back to the default Windows Aero - never fear! Windows Slate will never do anything permanent to your computer. Windows Slate is an unofficial theme package for Windows Vista. Windows Slate for Vista has been tested on SP0, SP1, and SP2 with no problems at all. However, for the highest level of compatibility and security, it's recommended that you upgrade your Windows Vista installation to Service Pack 2. Windows Slate for Vista is not compatible with Windows 7, or Windows XP. Installation for Windows Slate for Vista is intended to be as straightforward as possible. However, due to the nature of a modification like this, you must either install a UxTheme.DLL patch, OR uxStyle before you install Windows Slate. The current version of uxStyle is compatible with every version of Windows Vista, and is an extremely straightforward install. You can download uxStyle here. |

Public Preview 2 - 09/13/09 - Download.
This is the second public release of the Windows Slate theme for Windows Vista. This provides a near complete amount of groundwork for the release candidate, and eventually the final version of the theme. This theme provides an interesting mix of the original Slate theme for Longhorn 4053, but also adds many "refinements" over the original slate theme to be more true to Windows Vista. This theme is released as a way for interested parties to test out Windows Slate for Vista before the actual release, as the actual release may be some time in the future due to commitments, such as school, and homework. This preview contains a working installer.
WHAT IS HAS BEEN ADDED/FIXED SINCE PUBLIC PREVIEW 1?
- Fixed incorrect "grouped" taskbar items background.
- Fixed incorrect quick launch items background.
- Fixed bug where start menu floated 1px above the taskbar.
- Fixed incorrect "help" window button backgrounds.
- Fixed bug where menu bar items where white on white.
- Changed Close, Maximize, and Minimize buttons to match original Slate's more closely.
BUGS BLOCKING 1.0
- Not all media bar backgrounds changed. (YES: Theme Builder, NO: Media Player)
- "Empty the Recycle Bin" text is blue - change to light orange.
- Menu item rollover needs to be changed from blue tinted to orange.
- Work on ShellStyle.

- Menu item rollover needs to be changed from blue tinted to orange.
- Help titlebar button image need to be carried over to Slate BG.
- Menu items are White on White, this can easily be fixed by opening up "Window Color" in the Personalize menu, clicking "Advanced", clicking "Menu", and changing both the white values to black.
